Worshiping Goddess
Lakshmi on the evening of the first new moon after Durga Puja,
is a long tradition in Bengali families. To preserve the
tradition, Punascha arranged the celebration of Lakshmi Puja
in the evening of 16th November, 2001.

The main attraction of
this evening's cultural program was Sri
Utpalendu
Chowdhury,
the renowned folk singer from Bengal, India. Son of legendary
folk singer late Sri
Nirmalendu Chowdhury,
Utpalendu has
enthralled the audience with his rendering of folk songs of
Bengal for the last twenty-five years. He has given
extensive performances in India, Europe and North America. This
was Sri
Chowdhury's second performance in Punascha program. He kept the
audience swaying in their seats to the tune of his popular
numbers like Takdum Takdum Baje, Dada Paye Pori Re, Bhadara
Aswina Maase, Sundari Kamala, Sohag Chand Badani Dhani, Runur Jhunur
Paaye, Amar Jemon Beni, Ke Jaas Re, Neem Tita and many more for more than two hours
past the midnight. Mr. Tapan Chaki, an accomplished artist also
from Kolkata, accompanied him on Tabla.
